This is an authentic antique 19th century papier mach piece that is decorated with decoupage of Victorian fashion. The figures were probably cut out from Godeys Costume plates, which were engravings that presented the latest Parisian fashions to the Victorian public. Im unsure of the original intended use of this - maybe a pencil holder, but maybe meant to hold something else. The piece measures 7 in height and 2 3.8 by 4 across its top. It is in very good condition with the exception of a few scuffs on the side with the gentleman, wear to the underside, other small scratches or minor wear and overall glaze crazing, to be expected for a piece of this type and age - please view the photos for close-ups of the wear. This is a rather rare and unique piece of Victoriana - would be a wonderful display piece in a Victorian decor!
